Acclamations For Reflection

Week 4.     Celebrating the prophecies of our Messiah’s coming,
His birth, and His return at the end of time.

  • Behold the Lord is coming, prince of the kings of the earth! Happy are those who are ready to meet Him.

  • When the Son of Man comes, do you think He will find faith on the earth?

  • You will draw water with joy from the fountain of the Saviour.

  • Behold, now has come the fullness of time, in which God has sent His Son into the world.

  • The Lord will go forth from His holy place: He will come to save His people.

From Psalm 26 [27]

Prayer of Confidence

Hear O Lord, my voice which cries to you, be gracious to me and answer me.

My heart speaks to you, my face seeks you, your face, O Lord, I seek.

Hide not your face from me, rebuff not your servant in anger.

You are my help; cast me not off, nor forsake me O God, my Saviour.

You my father and my mother abandon me, yet will the Lord receive me.

Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me along a safe path because of my enemies.

Deliver me not to the desires of my foes, for false witnesses have risen up against me, and men who breathe violence.

I believe that I shall behold the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage, and wait for the Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Reading — 1 Corinthians 4: 1 — 5

Brethren: Let a man so account us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Now here it is required in stewards that a man be found trustworthy. But with me it is a very small matter to be judged by you or a man’s tribunal. Nay, I do not even judge my own self. For I have nothing on my conscience, yet I am not thereby justified; but he who judges me is the Lord. Therefore pass no judgement before the time, until the Lord comes, Who will both bring to light the things hidden in darkness and make manifest the counsels of hearts; and then everyone will have his praise from God.

Hymn as a Prayer

1. Jesus, loving Creator of the heavenly bodies, eternal light of the faithful and Redeemer of all men, hear Your suppliants’ prayers

2. For, urged on by generous love, You became a healing power to a sick world to prevent it being, through the devil’s wiles, sick even to its death.

3. You went forth as a sinless victim from Mary’s sacred womb to die on the Cross to atone for the sin of all mankind.

4. The might of Your glory and the reverence which the very mention of Your name inspires are so great that heaven and hell tremble and adore.

5. We implore You, our mighty Judge at the last day, defend us with the arms of heavenly grace from our enemies.

6. Strength, honour, praise, glory Be to God the Father together with the Son and the Holy Paraclete, for ever and ever. Amen.

V. Drop down dew, you heavens, from above,
and let the clouds rain the Just One.

R. Let the earth be opened and bud forth the Saviour.

Mary’s Hymn of Praise — St. Luke 1: 46 — 55

Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist (Luke 1: 41 — 45), acclaimed Mary, warmly with the words: “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb” — to which Mary replied in her prophetic hymn.

Antiphon

Monday

Lift up your eyes Jerusalem, and see how mighty is your King. Behold your Saviour comes to loose you from your chains.

Tuesday

Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call to Him while He is near.

Wednesday

After me is coming One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose, Halleluia.

Thursday

I am expecting the Lord my Saviour, and will bid Him welcome when he approaches.

Friday

Out of Egypt have I called My Son. He shall come to save His people.

My soul magnifies the Lord.

And my spirit rejoices in God my saviour.

Because he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid, for behold; henceforth all generations shall call me blessed,

Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

And His mercy is from generation to generation toward those who fear him.

He has shown might with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He has put down the mighty from their thrones and has exalted the lowly.

The hungry he has filled with good things and the rich he has sent empty away.

He has given help to Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy.

(As he promised our fathers) towards Abraham and his descendants forever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Antiphon

Repeat the appointed antiphon of the day.

The Lord’s Prayer

Traditional

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Contemporary

Our Father, in heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name,
Your Kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Prayer

O Lord, we implore You, stir up Your power and come; that by Your protection we may deserve to be rescued from the threatening dangers of our sins, and to be saved by Your deliverance. Who live and reign with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Closing

V. Our help is in the Name of the Lord.

R. Who made heaven and earth.

May the all powerful
and merciful Lord, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
bless and preserve us.
