Acclamations For Reflection

Celebrating the prophecies of our Messiah’s coming, His birth, and His return at the end of time.

  • Enraged, Herod put to death many male children in Bethlehem of Juda, the city of David.

  • Many male children two years old and younger were slain by Herod because of the Lord.

  • With the Lord is kindness and with Him is plenteous redemption.

  • Their Angels always behold the face of My Father.

  • Your own offspring I will set upon your throne.

From Psalm 109 [110]

Messiah, King, Priest, Victor.

The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool”.

From Zion the Lord will stretch forth the sceptre of your power; “Rule in the midst of your enemies!

Royal power is yours on the day of your birth in the splendour of holiness: like dew before the daystar, have I begotten you”.

The Lord has sworn and he will not repent: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchisedek”…

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is, was and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

From Psalm 131 [132]

Devotion to the Church and Holy Eucharist

The Lord has sworn to David a lasting promise from which he will not depart: “The offspring of your race I will set upon your throne.

If your children will keep my pact, and the precepts which I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit upon your throne”.

For the Lord has chosen Sion, he has desired it for his dwelling place:

“This is my resting place forever, here will I dwell, for I have desired it.

I will abundantly bless its food stock, I will satiate its poor with bread.

Its priests will I clothe with salvation, and its faithful ones shall shout with joy.

There will I exalt the power of David, I will prepare a lamp for my anointed.

His enemies will I clothe with shame, but upon him my crown shall shine”.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Reading — Apocalypse (Revelation) 14: 1 — 5

In those days, I saw the Lamb standing on Mount Sion, and with Him a hundred and forty four thousand having His name and the name of His Father written on the foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven like a voice of many waters, and like a voice of loud thunder; and the voice that I heard was as of harpers playing on their harps. And they were singing as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one could learn the song except those hundred and forty for thousand, who have been purchased from the earth. These are they who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were purchased from among men, first-fruits unto God and unto the Lamb, and in their mouth there was found no lie; they are without blemish before the throne of God.

Hymn as a Prayer

Hail, Martyr flowers. On the very threshold of your life Christ’s persecutor destroyed you, as a whirlwind does the budding roses. You, Christ’s first-fruits, a flock of tender sacrificial victims, now play with your palms and crowns right up by the very altar.

Glory be to You, Jesus, born of the Virgin; and glory be to the Father and the loving Spirit, through endless ages. Amen

V. Tomorrow the iniquity of the earth shall be blotted out.

R. And the Saviour of the world shall rule over us.

Mary’s Hymn of Praise — St. Luke 1: 46 — 55

Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist (Luke 1: 41 — 45), acclaimed Mary, warmly with the words: “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb” — to which Mary replied in her prophetic hymn.

Antiphon

Innocent infants have been slain for Christ’s sake; at the breast they were put to death by the wicked king; and they are following the Lamb without stain, and they keep saying, “Glory be to You, O Lord”.

My soul magnifies the Lord.

And my spirit rejoices in God my saviour.

Because he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid, for behold; henceforth all generations shall call me blessed,

Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

And His mercy is from generation to generation toward those who fear him.

He has shown might with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He has put down the mighty from their thrones and has exalted the lowly.

The hungry he has filled with good things and the rich he has sent empty away.

He has given help to Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy.

(As he promised our fathers) towards Abraham and his descendants forever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Traditional

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Contemporary

Our Father, in heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name,
Your Kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Prayer

O God, Whose praise the martyred Innocents on this day confessed, not by speaking, but by dying, destroy all the evils of sin in us, that our life may also proclaim in deeds, Your faith which our tongues profess. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Closing

V. Our help is in the Name of the Lord.

R. Who made heaven and earth.

May the all powerful and merciful
Lord, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
bless and preserve us.

Amen.
